Rumours have been circling after Love Island revealed that Cumbria-born islander Jacques had left the villa.

The 23-year-old Rugby player is the second contestant of the season who has decided to walk, after 22-year-old Swansea student Liam Llewellyn left within days of the new season starting.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Love Island producers announced that Jacques O'Neil had already left the villa and will explain why in tonight's episode.

In a statement from ITV, Jacques made the decision to leave himself and the broadcaster "fully support(s) his decision and look(s) forward to seeing what’s next for Jacques."

Love Island star quits: Jacques reveals why he left the villa after Adam's arrival

Last night's preview gave viewers a snapshot of why the Cumbria lad chose to pack his suitcase following the arrival of the former islander and infamous bombshell Adam Collard.

Jacques was in a couple with Paige after partnering up with her when he entered the villa.

But in recent episodes, there has been tension between the pair following his behaviour in Casa Amor when he "tested his connection" with her by getting to know other girls.

While Jacques had been in the dog house for several days, it looked like he was just about to win Paige round after he left her a romantic note in her bed for her to find.

But romance is never easy on Love Island, and while the boys enjoyed some relaxation outside the villa, a new boy arrived to stir things up.

Adam surprised both viewers and the islanders by entering the villa for a second time, first appearing in season four.

Jacques made the decision to leave the villa after his partner Paige decided to get to know the bombshell personal trainer, Adam.

In the preview, Jacques was seen to lose his temper after Adam was reportedly talking about him behind his back.

In the First Look snippet, Jacques said: "Who the f*** is he?!

"Just another geezer who has been on the show?!

"He's f****** nothing mate."

After finding out that Adam had called Jacques immature, he confronted Paige as she was talking to fellow islander Billy.

Demanding answers from the Swansea paramedic, he ordered Billy to leave, even swearing at him before revealing he would say the same if Adam attempted to talk to him.

Paige was less than impressed at the way he had handled the situation, describing his behaviour as 'hot-headed' and 'defensive'.

Afterwards, Adam approached Jacques, Deji and Josh at the fire pit before they tensely discussed his "game plan".

Paige then pulls Jacques for a chat after their row, where she explains "it's not fair" for him to react like that and that he had missed the first opportunity to work on things in their relationship after Casa Amor.

The couple is then filmed chatting as Paige tries to comfort him before he gets up to sit outside by himself.

Speaking to Jacques in bed, she said: "You genuinely have the biggest heart in here."

Paige took herself into the beach hut the following day where she confessed that his behaviour wasn't "up to scratch" and that she was worried about what he would be like on the outside world.

Taking her to the terrace, Jacques breaks down confessing that "she means so much to [him]".

Before revealing that he was going home, he added: "I've been trying to put on a brave face but things have been getting to me."

He left her with a parting message to "do what she needs to do", "not to think about him when he leaves" and that he will wait for her on the outside.

Jacques continued: "The only way for this to work is for me to get to back to myself.

"I just want to get home and be myself again and carry things on the outside."

After the couple embraced, Jacques broke the news to the rest of the villa as he gathered the islanders around the firepit.

Fans have been sending well wishes to Jacques, with many taking to social media.

One user wrote: " Genuinely worried for his mental health once he leaves, sending good vibes his way."

A second viewer added: " Let’s just all remember to be kind. He’s still a human being, who yes made some bad choices but everyone has…. He will need support."

A third person commented: "Idc I’m actually gutted he’s leaving."

Due to Jacques's exit, Paige will now be single as is new islander Adam.
