THE CITY council is set to decide on plans for Bridge End Inn, which if approved, would see the business widening its hospitality offering.

Carlisle City Council has received a change of use application which if approved, would see a garage on the site of Bridge End Inn, used as both a holiday let and staff accommodation.

The proposal, for the pub at Bridge End in Dalston, is set to be decided by the city council’s development panel in a meeting on Friday.

Three letters objecting to the plan have been received by the city council.

Representations made to the council include: “The existing building is not built in accordance with the previous permission granted for a single residential garage - it exceeds the size permitted and contains windows and doors which were not approved.”

Objections also claim: “The plot is unsuitable for a domestic dwelling/residential occupation whether as a home, staff accommodation or a holiday let.

“The trees in the neighbouring property have already been devastated by the development.

Dalston Parish Council “strongly object” to this application as they believe “it was never the intention of the “planning department to allow the development of a house/holiday let as part of the pub estate.”

Nevertheless, the city council’s officers have recommended that councillors approve the application.

In their report, the case officer said: “Given the location of the garage, the conversion of the building into ancillary residential accommodation for use by staff from the adjacent public house or to holiday accommodation would be acceptable in principle.”
