COUNCILLORS will discuss the city’s homeless prevention and rough sleeping at a committee meeting today.

Carlisle City Council’s Place Panel will meet at the Civic Centre to discuss a number of topics including the Homelessness Prevention and Rough Sleeping Strategy 2021-2026.

Officers will give a report providing an update on the strategy’s objectives and priority actions in year one.

The city council’s homelessness strategy has been developed based on six strategic objectives including, reduction of multiple exclusion homelessness and rough sleeping; prioritising early intervention and improving opportunities for young people.

Councillors will discuss the performance of the strategy in its first year.

A report prepared for the panel reveals the year one actions that have already been achieved.

These include outreach support and advice being provided to rough sleepers within 48 hours of a location report and development of a monitoring system, recording the support needs and housing history of people sleeping rough.

The council is also working with key partners “to actively promote, develop and deliver a range of accessible activities, employment and training opportunities for young people and children experiencing homelessness.”
