AN inquest was opened today into the deaths of Bethanie Clark and David Roy Muir, who tragically died in a crash on the A596 at Flimby.

Ms Clark, 31, lived in Criffel Road, Parton. Mr Muir, 43, lived in Seven Acres, Parton.

At the coroners' court in Cockermouth, coroner Margaret Taylor said: "It's my sad duty to open the inquest into the death of Bethanie Clark, who very sadly died on May 15 on the A596, Station Road, Flimby."

She gave a 'very brief summary of the circumstances' leading up to the police call, and said that in the 'very early hours' a member of the public called to report two bodies lying in the road.
