All the colourful action for SEND (special education needs and disability) families was organised by BEE UNIQUE, which supports families with autistic children.

The charity is the vision of Nadia Shaw and Dave Parsons, of Flimby - parents and carers to two non verbal boys, both diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition with Associated Learning Difficulties.

"During the May/June half term, BEE UNIQUE organised 47 activity sessions from Lancaster to Carlisle catering for 668 children," said Nadia.

"We then welcomed all SEND families to come and celebrate the Queen's Jubilee with a fab family fete at Seaton Village Hall."

The event offered a mix of free entertainment and paid activities. It included the BEE UNIQUE inflatable and soft play park with inflatable games, crazy golf, Buzz and Barney the alpacas, Bertie and Fudge the goats.

There were also Cumbria Superheroes, Dr Who, Bezarkus Circus and Rainbow Wishes.

Lots of people enjoyed comedy magic and an animal show hosted by Bradley Freeman.

There were also glitter tattoos, face painting, a craft area, hot food and icecream.

"It was lovely to see happy and smiley faces enjoying the BEE UNIQUE family fun day in a safe, tut-free and non-judgemental environment," said Dave.

He and Nadia are grateful to the many volunteers who helped ensure the day was a huge success.

Kerry Nkwo, an autism parent, said: "We had an incredible day at the BEE UNIQUE family funday."

Another parent, Lindsay Petre, said: "Thank you so much for organising such a fab family fun day. My two had lots of fun!"

Nadia said: "BEE UNIQUE would like to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers and individuals that have supported us through these sessions. Each and everyone of them have helped us to create safe, non-judgmental and enjoyable activity sessions for autism families."

All the sessions were subsidised or fully funded by BEE UNIQUE.

"It is our fundraisers and donors that allow us to continue to do what we do," said Nadia.

The charity's next family funday will be at Mayfield School, Whitehaven, Saturday, July 23.
