CONTRARY to your Homes and Interiors report (May 13) headed “A former school”, Eden School (the County Secondary School for Stanwix and district) was in Rickerby House, the mansion in Rickerby Park latterly owned by the public-spirited McInnes family, heirs of the flamboyant G H Head, the early 19th century owner who built the place in your report as an adornment.

Further to History Man’s (May 13) article on Reservoir Farm, there’s Ratlingate half a mile north on the canal edge. It was built to be a brewery with water from the canal.

They built it first, then applied for the water and were refused. “We need all the water we can get” and it became a bone-mill and by 1970s a camp for the Boy Scouts.
