Notice of a road closure, which will last for more than 20 days, has been given.

This is an emergency road closure which has been put in place due to the likelihood of danger to the public.

This is in reference to and as a result of the unsafe condition of the bridge in Alston Moor.

Cumbria County Council’s Highways Team explained the notice: “This notice will be in force for a period of up to 21 days from May 16, 2022, as and when the relevant signs are displayed.

“It is anticipated that the restriction will be required for 21 days.

The notice does not apply to emergency service vehicles, or anything that is done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform, and will not prevent pedestrians from accessing any premises adjacent to or on the roads.

The exact location of the road closure is a section of the U3117 in Garrigill, Alston, from its junction with the B6277 extending in a predominantly north-westerly direction to a point adjacent to the property known as ‘Tynehead’, approximately a length of 2.2km.

There is no suitable alternative route for vehicles at this time.
