Champions Carlisle City will receive the Northern League Division Two title trophy this weekend.

A special presentation will be made to the club at their Gillford Park ground on Saturday at 3pm.

It follows their dramatic last-day rise to the top of the table after a hugely impressive season from Jim Nichols’ team.

Representatives from the league will be at Gillford Park to hand over the silverware and the club are inviting people to watch the ceremony.

Gates will open at 2pm and there will be a complimentary buffet plus further refreshments.

“Come along and see the trophy and show your gratitude to a fine bunch of players,” the club said.

City's 3-0 win over Ryton and Crawcrook Albion on Saturday saw them edge ahead of Heaton Stannington on goal difference in the race for the title.

Their triumph came as Heaton could only manage a 2-2 draw at Easington Colliery - allowing Nichols' free-scoring Cumbrians to overtake them.

It came four days after City also won the Cumberland Cup, capping a memorable campaign for the club.

Manager Nichols said: "I’m really, really proud of the lads. I've been informed the club has never won a league title before.

"We’ve been at this level of football for five years and we’ve won a league and cup double, which doesn’t happen very often.

"It's probably as proud as I’ve ever been in football."

Carlisle United manager Paul Simpson, whose nephew Josh captains City, has also sent the club his congratulations.
