An exciting and creative art pop-up, INTERFERENCE, has been launched in Carlisle's Lanes shopping centre to showcase students original works. 

Students studying The University of the Arts London (UAL) Foundation Diploma in Art & Design at Carlisle College will exhibiting their talented 'pop-up' portfolio across from New Look until Friday May 28. 

The work looks to draw upon the students experiences and disruptions caused by lockdowns, a completely new challenge that has now been had adapt to what is now deemed ‘normal’- of which, they are rising to with creativity, resourcefulness and positivity.

Foundation student, Rosie Humpage, said: "I have taken inspiration from old family slides and considered how memories can get mixed up and change over time, they can become fragmented, and I have communicated this through my work on display here in the exhibition. 

"I have a real passion for Art and it is great to be able to exhibit in the heart of the city," she said.

Fellow student, Kate Hornby said staff and students will be on the ground at the 'pop-up', offering unique insights into the work that's got into the project. 

"Students and staff are available during the exhibition to answer questions about the work and the course, so it’s a great opportunity for us also to interact with the public, and to speak to them about our artwork. 

"I plan to attend Liverpool John Moores University in September where I will study Fine Art, so the exhibition as well as the course has all been great experience," she said. 

Paul Taylor, course lecturer for the UAL Foundation Diploma in Art & Design at Carlisle College said: "After working virtually for two years it's great to actually have a physical exhibition that's open to the public, to remind the students, and also ourselves, that the work they create belongs in the wider world with an audience.

"It's also a really good opportunity to take stock of what great things have been achieved so far this year and to set the bar high for the last weeks of their final projects, which they will be exhibiting at the college."
