THE MEMBERS of a motorcycle club have continued their long-standing relationship with a Carlisle school by recently donating £2,000 for the institution.

The Cumbrian branch of the Devil’s Disciples MC have donated to James Rennie School since 1992, and their recent contribution is set to be used towards building a new playground for the school.

Located on California Road in the Kingstown area of the city, James Rennie School look after pupils aged 3 to 19 who have severe or profound learning disabilities and live in the North of Cumbria.

The fundraising was co-ordinated by members of the Devil’s Disciples’ Cumbria and North Cumbria branches and members visited the school to hand over the donation.

Originating in Greater Manchester, the Devil’s Disciples have been around for over 50 years.

Discussing the partnership with Devil’s Disciples MC, headteacher Kris Williams shared: “The wonderful members of the Devil's Disciples Motorcycle Club have been supporting our school for 30 years.

“The first time the club donated money, it was to support a holiday for group pupils to go to Scarborough, and since then every year they have done something for our children. They also manage to bring in other motorcycle clubs as part of their fundraising too, which has included waxing and shaving their bodies, organising raffles, spot the ball, fundraising parties and much more.

“The club also turn up every year Easter eggs for each of children, they are also first in line to help us in school by doing things like raising marquees for children's music festivals and collecting entrance money at the summer fair.

“They also rather wonderfully come from time to time with their custom bikes to School to show the pupils and allow them to sit on them and hear the incredible engines.

“Our school community and pupils are incredibly lucky to have such incredible long-term support from an amazing bunch of local people.”

A spokesperson for Devil’s Disciples MC said: “This is our biggest donation so far! A special thank you to everyone involved and a special thanks to Kelly Louise Cole, Tasha Cole, Amanda Vernon, Nic Hewitt for helping with the raffle.”
