A TEAM of Energus nuclear graduates have developed a learning tool to help employers engage effectively with schools and spark student interest in STEM subjects.

Funded by Energus, employers and public donations, Innovabox Space is an interactive and immersive space-themed learning experience for primary school students, providing class activities for a full day.

Innova Learning is a group of nuclear graduates passionate about inspiring young people about careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).

The graduates are employed by Energus, through the nationally-acclaimed 'nucleargraduate' programme and sponsored by a number of partner organisations.

A key feature of the nucleargraduate programme is to inspire and develop the graduates’ entrepreneurial skills.

The Innovabox Space concept was created and designed through the delivery of the SME project module, which forms part of the core training on the scheme.

The aim of the Innovabox Space project is to promote inclusivity in STEM and enthuse the next generation.

Innovabox Space guides the class through activities that explore day and night, the solar system and gravitational forces and has been designed to align with elements of the national curriculum, including teaching resources to support the planning and delivery of the activities.

The Innovabox Space product is comprised of reusable, recyclable, or biodegradable items, promoting care for our planet and includes a waste management guide.

One teacher said: “This journey is an opportunity for me to execute the lessons I learned from my degree as well as assist my team and raise awareness to the importance of STEM subjects”

Another said: “The children really enjoyed the Launch Pod Mission. This was hugely engaging and encouraged teamwork and critical thinking skills.”

Nucleargraduates is a 2-year graduate development programme developed by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and delivered by Energus.  The programme has supported over 450 graduates into careers in the nuclear sector since its inception in 2008.
