Organisers of a cycling event are calling for teams and individuals to join in.

The Watchtree Nature Reserve's Cycle the Solway event, which is sponsored by Dodd & Co., is said to be a fantastic opportunity for local firms or groups to get together and have a team 'away day'.

The weekend features four marshalled and signposted routes, for all abilities, with medical and mechanical support and feed stations at set points.

The Solway Plain offers quiet, flat country lanes with incredible views of the Lakeland fells to the South, the Scottish coastline to the North and West and the Pennines to the East.

Saturday, May 14's rides include ‘The Allonby Eight’, a 108 kilometres route from Watchtree, priced at £30 per rider and ‘Round the Island’ – 60km from Watchtree, for the same price.

Sunday, May 15's rides are shorter distances and suitable for families, including ‘Life’s a Beach’ – a 25km from Watchtree, for £18; and finally, the ‘Tour de Turbines’ – as many 3km loops within the safety of Watchtree’s perimeter route as you can, for £8.

Stephanie Norman, Marketing and Events Team Leader at Watchtree Nature Reserve said: “It is fantastic to see all the entries coming in for Cycle the Solway 2022.

"An incredible number of people benefit daily from using our adapted fleet of bikes as well as the smooth pathways and the safe, spacious environment at Watchtree, both of which make the reserve and nature accessible to all - this is only possible because of charitable donations and events like Cycle the Solway.”
