A popular city centre restaurant will be hosting a charity evening in which all takings will be donated to Ukraine.

Alex's Pasta Bar, located in Carlisle's Green Market, will be opening up the restaurant with a special menu on April, 28 - with every penny going to provide aid, not just the profits.

Romanian-born owner, Alex Stoica, who has recently moved premises to the new Green Market location 8 months ago, said it's been 'terrible' to see what's happening in Ukraine.

"Obviously we have more reasons to help because we hear about it more than normal people, especially of course as my wife Alla, her family are still living right in the middle of it all in Ukraine.

"Cumbria has been great in trying to help the on-going situation, especially Polish Shop Dino, they've organised so much in the way of transporting goods across the border.

"I think the people of Cumbria will keep on helping donate in various forms and doing what they can to help the situation," he said.

Ever since the war broke out, the restaurant has been donating all money made from desserts which will be added to the collection on April 28, alongside the addition of a donation jar which has sat front and centre in the restaurant.

The venue will also be organising a raffle on the right, with all funds being added to the collection pot.

"It doesn't cost us a lot, but it makes a difference over there," he said.

There will be a special menu on the night which is yet to be announced.
