Easter 2022 is shaping up to be business as usual in Carlisle.

As our archives photos show, the main Easter events in and around the city are the Carlisle Races and fund day and the city centre Continental Market.

Both are on again this year..

The continental market will, however, now be an International Market running from Thursday 14 to Monday April 18

The horse racing is n Saturday, April 18 this year and the organisers are promising fun for all the family.

The black and white photo on this page sees a procession of people observing Good Friday. This appears to have gone out of fashion now as there do not seem to be any notices anywhere saying they are on

As our archives show, however, there are plenty of way Easter and plenty of fun to have on the way.

The picture on page one was selected because the "little girl" with the wide smile and the Easter egg would just make readers smile, too.

Who would have guessed, through, that this "girl" was a woman of 21!

A photo on the second page gives us a second dose of nostalgia.

Not only do staff and residents get a giant Easter egg - but look who donated it.

How many of us would love Woolworth to re-open. Remember the Ladybird clothing for children and just the fact that whatever you wanted, - including all the latest records.

* Translation for the young: records came before CDs and certainly before downloads and we played music on them. They warped in the sun and we tried to iron them back into shape, which never worked! Those under 50 now know them as Vinyl - but they were our records first!

Looking at these pictures it is obvious that Easter brings our the smiles.

Look at the little boy in the Bible bus, the mum and son enjoying continental fare and the children frolicking with Easter Bunny.

Whether you are at church, relaxing at home or enjoying all that is being offered Have a happy Easter everyone.
