Detectives investigating a suspected serious assault in Workington have charged a man with causing wounding with intent.

Eddie Coid, 34, of Thomas Road, Workington, is due to appear before Workington’s magistrates’ court this morning following enquiries carried out this week.

A spokesperson from Cumbria Police said: "Investigations were launched after officers were called in the early hours of Monday, March 28.

"This followed concerns for the welfare of a man, 34, of west Cumbria, found by passers-by in a back lane off Milburn Street, Workington.

"The man was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with serious injuries. He was in a critical but stable condition today. Three other people were also arrested as part of the investigation."

A man, 51, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released under investigation and two other people were released with no further action.
