Carlisle Quakers will be joining the efforts to raise vital funds for the people of Ukraine through the help of a coffee morning this Wednesday (March,30).

The event, on Fisher Street, which will run from 10am to half past 12, is open for everyone to attend for tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits, raising money in the name of the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

Organiser, Beverley Branch, said: "We've done this because the Quakers oppose all wars, we hope for a world to live in peace and harmony together, we've seen the destruction going on across the world at the moment.

"For me, it's grown men seeing who can be the biggest bully in the world, but it's the children and victims being left to suffer.

"We've had what's went on in Yemen, war in Columbia, it just seems that no ones learning their lesson from previous wars," she said.

One of the reasons Beverley is organising the event comes after her husband Paul Branch, drove from Carlisle to Poland within 24 hours last week.

The event, hosted by the independent charity, will feature lovely homemade bakes alongside donations from Asda and Tesco community champions.

Carlisle Quakers will also be taking part in the Peace Education Project, which looks to work with local schools to promote peaceful living and the avoidance of conflict.

"If you read ever read children's book you'll soon find that children want everyone to get on in life, that's what we're trying to promote.

"It's a nice religion but it's not a religion that's forced upon you," she said.
