AS Spring gets into full swing, it's time to venture out of the house and catch some of the great things happening in Carlisle in April.

At the News & Star we've compiled a list of ten things happening in the city next month - but it's by no means exhaustive, so keep an eye on our Events pages for more ideas.

1. Nudge nudge, ink ink. From April 1 until April 3 at the Old Fire Station, tattoo lovers can enjoy the North Lakes Tattoo Show. It is the 13th convention to be held in Carlisle and features some of the best tattoo artists in the UK and Europe.

2. On April 5, Russell Brand will be performing a comedy gig at the Sands Centre. The actor and author is recognised globally as a comedy powerhouse - catch his latest live show.

3. More deadly than the male... cult 90s act Space will be performing at the Old Fire Station on April 8, with doors opening at 7:30pm. They are perhaps best known for their smash hit Female of the Species; support will come from Delagrave.

4. Another big name of noughties, controversy-courting comedy, Jimmy Carr will be performing his Terribly Funny show at the Sands Centre on April 8. His latest set promises to be a hit with audiences everywhere. The show will kick off at 8pm.

5. At The Brickyard there are some fantastic tribute acts performing in the coming month. If you are a fan of the Thin White Duke you won't want to miss Ultimate Bowie on April 9.

6. Also at The Sands Centre later in the month is Paul Weller, who will be performing on April 19 at 7pm. The Modfather is known for being a member of legendary British band The Jam - along with having a hugely successful solo career.

7. If Space wasn't enough 90s nostalgia for you, then why not go to see tribute act the Happy Mondaze performing all the top tracks from the hazy days of Madchester at the Old Fire Station on April 23 - with a DJ set from Inspiral Carpets' Clint Boon.

8. Popular British comedian, the 'Duke of Dour' himself, Jack Dee will bring a ray of very funny light into audiences' lives with his Off the Telly show at the Sands Centre on April 27.

9. Late in the month, yet another big name comic - Jason Manford - is coming to the Sands Centre. The popular funnyman will be entertaining audiences on April 28 between 6pm and 9pm.

10. If you enjoy heavy metal, then Korn Again, a Korn tribute act, will be performing at the Brickyard alongside Spooky Kids... a Marilyn Manson tribute act.
