A CARLISLE photographer has seen his popularity grow having been featured in a magazine that sells worldwide.
Paul Reid has recently seen thousands of people follow his Instagram account that showcases his work. He has also become the feature of a nine-page article in ‘Black and White Photography’, which highlights quality contemporary monochrome photography and has worked with iconic photographers like David Bailey.
Richard Taberner has worked with Peter for several years and has shared his time working with the photographer.
He said: “My first memory of Paul was when he just had an interest in photography, and he would do it for amateur reasons. He would also do the odd wedding. He’s a proper old school photographer where he would hire a dark room at Morton Manor and develop his own prints.
“When things became digital, he slightly lost touch with photography and he admitted that he didn’t pick up a camera for a while. He had a flatmate who unfortunately died of a brain tumour and it inspired Paul to pick the camera up again and get back out there.
“He’d take photos using his Q2 monochrom camera and at this point he had become noticed. He was a Portrait of Britain finalist and his work was in a book, he’s been on podcasts in America and now has a nine-page article on him on this magazine. He’s started to focus more on the digital side of things, his Instagram and his YouTube channels and it’s just taken off.”
Richard would later share what Paul gets up to know he’s rediscovered his love for photography. He said: “What he does now is portraits, street images and weddings. His style of wedding photography is a little bit different; he wants to be a little bit candid and gets more involved in the wedding. He will also do the traditional images.
“He’s worked with Carlisle Cathedral and has also started a project that I am involved in, where he uses the same five people who he takes photos of over a six-month period. It was through this project, called ‘The Time Traveller’ where the magazine noticed him and it's an image from the project that has made the front cover.”
