A CARLISLE venue is set to welcome one of the UK’s brightest stars in country music next month.

Katy Hurt will perform at The Old Fire Station on Friday, April 15.

Hurt is yet to release her debut album but has ended up performing to thousands at the Country to Country Festival at London’s O2 Arena and has also supported Liam Gallagher.

Discussing her act, Katy shared: “I find it funny when you use the word ‘Country’ as people may have a pre-conceived notion of what it is, but my kind of Country is a little bit of everything. There’s Southern Rock, there’s Americana and Blues. What I like to do is making sure everyone has a fun time.

“I want people up dancing and singing along. It’s going to be a varied show but a lot of fun and there’ll be something for everyone.”

Next month’s visit isn’t Katy’s first time in Carlisle. She continued: “In 2019, I had the opportunity to perform at the Warwick Bazaar, which is a vintage clothing shop. We were on the third floor and it was in a midweek appearance so I didn’t know what to expect. It was completely packed out and I didn’t expect to receive such a warm welcome.

“That was the first time I performed in Carlisle and sadly my last due to the pandemic, so I’m super excited to be back and playing at a venue where we can put on an actual show.”

When asked if shows need to be altered due to the differing levels of magnitude, Katy answered: “I tailor the show that we do to the place we’re playing in. Sometimes it would take right up until we’re backstage and I see the type of crowd and the energy in the room. I’ll even change the setlist on stage to make sure that it is appropriate for the occasion.

“At the O2, it was such an incredible show and there was such a buzz due to being at a massive venue, the Liam Gallagher show was in front of 9,000 people of the iconic Pyramid Stage, so there’s a level of anticipation to making the shows worthy. I definitely have some plans in mind for Carlisle.”

Tickets for Katy’s show cost £12.50 and are available on Skiddle.
