AFTER more than 200 years, we have published the final broadsheet edition of The Cumberland News.

Next week we will be proud to re-launch The Cumberland News as an easy-to-handle compact edition.

We have reacted to the opinions of you, our readers, and remodelled the newspaper.

But we will be preserving all the great traditional values of The Cumberland News – and we are delighted to be bringing you some exciting new content platforms.

This bumper package will offer 112 pages of our top-quality news, sport, features and advertisers’ messages.

We are introducing even more district news as well as local lifestyle content, encouraging our readers to enjoy all that beautiful north Cumbria has to offer.

The News’s rich history will be retained as we continue to respect a title that is over 200 years old.

The first edition of our forerunner, The Carlisle Patriot, was published on Saturday, June 3, 1815, with its Carlisle offices in Newspaper House, Dalston Road, being officially opened by Princess Anne in 1972.

And in 1978 Robin Burgess was appointed to the main board of Cumbrian Newspapers - the fourth generation of the Burgess family to be elected as a director.

It is timely that our new office, LOCALiQ House in Dalston Road, has opened this month, providing our teams with a working environment fit for the ever-evolving publishing industry.

The CN has an award-winning reputation for leading the way with its quality coverage.

It was our team’s coverage of the foot and mouth crisis in 2001, which decimated the rural community it serves, that led to the CN being named UK Regional Newspaper of the Year.

And in 2005, 2013 and 2014 The CN won the UK Weekly Newspaper of the Year title.

The following year in 2015, The Cumberland News celebrated its 200th anniversary.

Now we are about to embark on another milestone.

We would not have been able to achieve any of our successes without the support from you, our readers, and we hope you’ll continue your journey with us as we launch our new Cumberland News.
