A CARLISLE martial artist has become the city's first Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt.

Kit Wilson, the head coach of Radgie Rollers, has been training jiu-jitsu for more than ten years and has received the black belt from Professor Takeo Tani (Draculino lineage) from Singapore.

Earning a blackbelt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a difficult achievement and it takes more than ten years of consistency and hard work.

Kit has competed and won numerous competitions including British nationals, Europeans championships and International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) contests.

He has lots of students including children and women who are dedicated in training in this particular martial art.

Training jiu-jitsu is considered part of a lifestyle, because it not only trains the body but the mind.

Students learn to be humble, patient and consistent by training jiu-jitsu which is also known as ‘human chess’.

Kit Wilson has led the team Radgie Rollers to be one of the top teams in the UK.

Radgie Rollers has lots of members who are passionate about training.

Kit’s wife said: “Kit is so dedicated in jiu-jitsu. He trains everyday, thinks about it all day and goes to bed imagining the techniques.

"We met in the gym when I was a white belt and he was purple. Now I am a purple belt and he received his black belt.

"I know how much hard work and passion he has put and I couldn’t be prouder of him.

"He believes receiving a black belt is just a beginning of another chapter and we have a long journey to go.”
