GROUPS and organisations across the county are showing their support for the people of Ukraine.

In recent weeks Russia has invaded the country, and many people are having to flee to neighbouring states as refugees.

Many people have decided to give those suffering help and support by sending over donations.

Egremont Town Council is one of the groups showing support.

A spokesperson from the council said: "The war refugees are having to leave their homes and country with just what they can carry, some with even less than that.

"To ensure there is a collection point for the community of Egremont, the Town Council is happy for those who want to help by contributing any of these items below and bring them to the Town Council offices between the hours of 10am and 2pm where we will then ensure they are passed on."

They are collecting items like sleeping bags, blankets and winter clothing. Children's clothing and sanitary items are also essential.

The Dino Polish shop which has stores in Maryport and Carlisle is also collecting items together.

They have issed a statement on their social media thanking the public for their support and ask for continuing donations.

The store in Maryport is also looking for more volunteers to support their ongoing work.

Another group that is helping those in crisis is the Cumbria Freemasons. They have opened a drop in centre in west Cumbria where members of the public can leave their donations.

A spokesperson said: "The Masonic Centre at Cleator Moor is being used as a drop Centre for the aid for Ukraine. We are especially looking for first aid kits, baby milk, baby bottles, bandages and nappies."

A public group that operates through Facebook has also been promoting those in the area who have been helping with donation efforts.

A post appeared on the group's page from people who were encouraging residents to donate sanitary products to those in need.

These types of products are highly needed by those fleeing Ukraine at the moment.

These are just some of the people who are showing their support for the cause.

Workington Town Council is also providing drop off points for donations,as is Millbry Hill in Whitehaven and St Bees School, amongst other places.
