THERE was little difficulty in picking out our Person of the Week this week.

While people all over the county, country and world are doing what they can for the people of Ukraine, a local businessman, Krystian Klicki, is not only collecting food and goods for those who have fled into Poland, but is also making sure the goods get to them as soon as possible.

"They are our brothers and sisters," he said.

"I live in the UK now but I am from Poland and our country shares a border with Ukraine.

"Today it is  Ukraine. Tomorrow history could repeat itself - it could be Poland."

News and Star:

Through his connections and imports, he has been in touch with Polish transport businesses operating in the UK, both nearby and in London, who are only too glad to take goods he is able to collect back to Poland and make sure they get to where they are most needed.

Krystian, with his partner Adela, runs Polish Shop Dino in Carlisle, Maryport, Dumfries and Barrow. And that is just for now. He is looking to eventually run a chain.

"We cater for the Polish and other Eastern European communities here but we get more and more British all the time who are enjoying our food and drink."

Krystian, 47, came to Britain in 2006 and worked as a machinery opertor on a building site.

He wanted to go into business for himself and is now four shops into his dream.

News and Star:

He has three children aged 18, 17 and six and when he is not working he is involved in helping with a local Polish Scout Group.

He also has a German Shepherd which he takes to dog shows.

Any donations are appreciated and can be left at any of the four Polish shops.

Krystian said, however, that he is especially keep to get painkillers, baby formula, soap, wipes, toothpaste, blankets and baby powder.
