The results of a by-election, which saw two seats contested in Allerdale, have been revealed.

Labour gained the Stainburn and Clifton seat on Allerdale Borough Council in the by-election yesterday.

The party's candidate, Jimmy Grisdale received 354 votes out of 651 votes cast.

He ran against Conservative candidate Jacqueline Kirkbride who received 294 votes.

A turnout of 21.81 per cent was seen in the Stainburn and Clifton ward.

Thursday also saw an election for a seat on Broughton Parish Council.

Russell John Cockburn was elected to the parish council with 200 votes.

He ran against Conservative candidate Neil Richard Rumbold who received 99 votes.

21.26 per cent of the electorate turned out to vote with 300 votes received in total.
