THE people of Whitehaven have come out in support of a launderette due to their exemplary friendly business practice, that's always willing to go the 'extra-mile'.

A reader has nominated the Whitehaven Launderette for our trader of the week due to the service always being 'approachable, professional and the items always come laundered to perfection'.

Whitehaven Launderette, based on 15 New Street, has been continuously hailed due to their continued vital service over the course of the pandemic to those in need.

Throughout Covid-19, the business has been offering contactless delivery on laundered clothes and bedding, which has proved a vital service for both elderly and vulnerable.

"We haven't forgot about them," said owner Steven Moore.

Steven, 52 of Whitehaven, took the business over from his father four years ago due to unfortunate ill-health, subsequently following his career as a welder at Sellafield.

At the time of taking over the premise, Steven brought with it a complete refurbishment of the shop.

Offering a quick reliable service is what the Whitehaven Launderette prides itself on - whilst ensuring he gives the customers a good laugh on their passing.

"With everything that comes into the shop, it's about a quick turn around - we don't want anything loitering about in the shop.

"If it comes in first thing in the morning, we try get it out back the same day," he said.

Whilst Steven loves being independent and being his own boss, he said "it's not as straightforward as some might think".

"Covid-19 changed a lot for us, we lost the business from B&B's, hotels, hairdressers and all our sports teams.

"Fortunately we're just waiting on a few of these to fully bounce back, which is slowly coming," he said.

With 2022 in full swing, Steven is hopeful for the year ahead, as he's in the shop most of the time himself, he looks forward to bringing two more staff members on board and fully expects a return of increased footfall and businesses bouncing back to his store front.
