CUMBRIA Police are appealing for witnesses following a single vehicle collision that led to the death of the driver.

Police were called to the A66 Appleby bypass opposite Cafe 66 on the westbound carriage way on Saturday, February 12 at around 9am.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: "The collision involved a red saloon BMW 330.

"As a result of the collision the single occupant the driver, a man in his 20s from Maidenhead, sadly died at scene.

"The road was closed for several hours whilst a forensic collision investigation was conducted."

Three fire engines also attended the incident.
