A STATION adoption group have transformed two Cumbrian train stations with hand-made wooden artwork and planters.

Skills 4 You is a group of station adopters based in Cleator Moor in Cumbria. They support individuals returning to work and those that are taking their first steps towards employment by offering advice and workshops to gain practical skills.

The group adopted Braystones and Nethertown stations in 2019 and are now working to transform into vibrant and welcoming spaces.

Chris Jackson, regional director at Northern said: "I’d like to thank everyone who created this colourful artwork at our stations.

"Our community partners are the heartbeat of the railway and we’re extremely proud to work closely with them to deliver such a wide-ranging positive impact for the north of England."

Staff and learners from Skills 4 You have created a wooden train set which now stands at Braystones Station. New planters with hand painted wooden flowers have also been installed with the work being funded by Northern's Station Adoption Fund.

Warren Birch, community rail officer, said: "It's wonderful to see that the individuals from Skills 4 You are using these opportunities to further develop both themselves and these unique stations."
