THIS week a factory worker from Carlisle won £2million on a National Lottery scratchcard.

Ian Black, 61, has since handed in his notice at the Pirelli Factory and is celebrating his amazing luck with his partner.

We thought we'd take a look back on other Cumbrians who have won big money on lottery events.

In 2013 Tracy Birkbeck from Penrith won £370,000 on the National Lottery's Draw in 2013. She explained at the time "it was an incredible feeling" to have won such a large amount.

Karen Lucock from Carlisle was another lucky winner who got £120,000 from a National Lottery Instant Win game in 2020.

Ms Lucock said: "I initially thought I had won £100, so I called Camelot to claim my prize – the lady on the other end of the phone was asking me if I was excited, as she couldn’t understand why I wasn’t screaming down the phone."

Last year in Carlisle a syndicate working for Stagecoach won £1million on the Euromillions, and each took £100,000 from the winnings.

The syndicate, who all work for Stagecoach Carlisle, include Kenneth Devlin, Sherry Haughin, Kevin Davidson, David Taylor, Darren Robson, Philip Dunn, Les Kirkaldy, Scott Janczuk, John Nunn and company secretary Susan Kilgour.

Nowadays people not only win on the National Lottery there are also many other great chances for people to win big money.

The People's Postcode Lottery offers just that, recently four Warwick-on-Eden neighbours won £30,000 each.

For one winner, Caroline Nash, the money was a nice surprise after recently giving birth to twins- the cheque even arrived on the twin’s predicted due date.

One grandfather from Carlisle celebrated after winning a £30,000 prize. As it was during lockdown in July 2020, the good news had to be presented over video call.
