A woman from Cumbria has managed to raise thousands for a local charity after they cared for her late husband.

Susan Turner, from Carlisle, has raised £5063 for Hospice at Home by completing a fundraiser in memory of her husband Andy who passed away in 2020.

On 21st October 2021, a year since Andy had died, Susan along with her sons and friends took part in Mr T's Final 8 Challenge.

Andy had been passionate about completing the Wainwright walking challenge and had completed an impressive 173 before he died, Susan decided to complete these as a touching tribute to him.

A spokesperson from Hospice at Home, said: "Susan finished off the Wainwrights on his behalf and wanted to dedicate the completion of the last 8 as a fitting challenge to her husband, not only to raise awareness of the charities close to his heart; Hospice at Home and Brain Tumour Research but to remember and celebrate the kind, caring and unassuming person that he was.

"Mr T’s Final 8 included a gruelling 1400m of ascent in challenging terrain and finished on Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England which was always going to be his final Wainwright."

Susan met with Julie Blundell Fundraiser and a Julie Boothman Nurse Team Lead who were able to thank Susan personally for this tremendous gift of support.

Because of the extent of services that Hospice at Home provides, they need to raise £19,000 a week. They say without the support of people like Susan this would not be possible.

This donation will ensure clinical care and comfort in the home will be available for future patients, families and carers who need the help of the Clinical Service of local Charity, Hospice at Home.

The Hospice at Home service covers 1500 square miles from the Scottish Border to Stainmore and Allonby to Alston.
