A WIGTON pensioner guilty of assaulting a woman has been given a suspended ten week jail term after he failed to comply with his community order.

Peter Edward Sageman, of Syke Road, failed to make himself available for the fitting of his curfew monitoring equipment on two dates, Workington Magistrates Court heard.

At Workington Magistrates' Court, he admitted this meant he was in breach of his community order. It was imposed on August 27 last year. His original offence was committed at Wigton on January 25 last year.

He was also sentenced for stealing wheel nuts and damaging a car tyre, both belonging to James McCracken on August 28 last year; and stealing a wheel brace.

Magistrates said the pensioner had failed to engage with the Probation Service but they suspended the jail term for a year because he was assessed as posing a "low risk" of reoffending.
