On Sunday 16th January fire crews from Carlisle East station were alerted to an individual who had become trapped on a bridge.

At 1am firefighters attended to the individual who was unable to make their way down from Millenium Bridge in the city.

A spokesperson from Carlisle East Fire Station said: "At approximately 1am, the appliance from Carlisle East was mobilised along with our Aerial Ladder Platform, and the fire appliance from Carlisle West Fire Station, to reports of someone trapped on Millenium Bridge, above Castle Way, Carlisle.

"Crews utilised the ALP to bring the individual down to safety.

"Thanks to Cumbria Police for their help in resolving the incident."
