A Cumbrian charity has shared their delight after seeing their mission to collect used Christmas trees in and around the Carlisle area become a triumph.

Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland were thrilled to announce that their annual Christmas Tree Collection Appeal was a huge success. Supporters donated a massive £14,000 toward the cause to have their tree collected and recycled. The event took place on Wednesday January 12 and involved the collection of 1,242 Christmas trees, a substantial increase from previous years.

The appeal sees volunteers and corporate supporters set off early to collect trees across Carlisle, Longtown, Brampton, Wigton and Penrith.

The Hospice at Home service covers 1,500 square miles from the Scottish Border to Stainmore and Allonby to Alston. The charity is vital and needs to raise over £19,000 each week to continue to provide this service.

Julie Blundell, Head of Income Generation and Marketing for the Charity, said, “We want to thank the local people who donated and supported this appeal and to our amazing volunteers and local companies who helped collect trees throughout the day. The funds raised will enable us to support and care for local patients who wish to remain at home whilst also supporting their families and carers. All care is provided to the patient free of charge, and this vital support from the appeal will help to ensure the service is available when needed.

“The event simply couldn’t have happened without these generous supporters and we would like to thank everyone who helped make the day such a huge success”.

Julie added: I’d like to offer sincere thanks to the sponsors of this event Lloyds Motors, to all the businesses who recycled and collected trees: Orchard Tree Surgery, North West Recycling Ltd, CWB Forestry, Eden Woodland Consultants, Sawyers Construction, Special Event Tipis, Stagecoach, Tech 4 Office, Thomas Graham and Son, Integrity IT Solutions, McKnight and Son Builders, WM Armstrong Ltd, Westwood Landscape, Holliday Landscaping and Maintenance, David’s House Clearance, Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors, Cumberland Building Society, Dalemain Estates, Atkinson Building Contractors, Travis Perkins, North Lakes Glass and Hart Distribution ,BT and the Amazon Teams.”
