Cumbrians are being encouraged to lend a helping hand in feeding the world's hungriest children.

Providing free school meals remains an incomprehensibly debated issue in the UK today, thankfully however, these characteristics are not always being carried across the World.

Mary's Meals, a charity which provides a school meal to more than 2 million children a day, are asking for Cumbrian's to consider raising money in their name for any fundraising venture.

The Move For Meals campaign will provide anyone taking part in an active challenge with sponsorship in the name of the charity.

The organisation provides children in over 20 countries, including Malawi, Haiti and Syria, with a school meal once a day to help encourage productive learning.

Morven Macgillivray, supporter engagement manager at Mary’s Meals, said: “Move For Meals is a brilliant campaign as it shows that even the smallest of steps can transform the lives of children around the world."

On average, the charity estimates it costs £15.90 to feed a child for a whole school year.

“Getting sponsored to Move For Meals will motivate everyone taking part, spurring them on to the next step, the next jog, the next lap of the pool, knowing that their effort can and will change the lives of some of the world’s most deprived children by ensuring they get at least one nutritious meal every school day," she said.

Now really is the best time to fundraise for Mary Meal's, as the charities Double The Love campaign is still in place till 31 January.

The campaign means that all donations will be matched by a group of donors, with a chance of securing an extra £1.6m to the World's poorest countries.
