CARLISLE East Fire Station were called to assist Penrith Fire Service following a property fire on Tuesday evening.

At approximately 8:30pm, Carlisle East’s appliance and Aerial Ladder Platform were mobilised to reports of a fire at the property in Great Strickland, near Penrith.

Appliances from Penrith and Shap were already in attendance, battling a fire involving the roof space of a semi-detached barn conversion, using breathing apparatus and ladders.

Crews utilised their ALP to provide access to the roof to cut a fire break to stop the fire spreading to the unaffected property, and to remove slates from the roof so we could attack the fire from above using water from the cage mounted monitor on the ALP.

The incident was successfully brought to a conclusion, and the crew returned to station at approximately 3am.

NOTE: A previous version of this story stated that the fire was started deliberately. The News & Star would like to apologise; this was a misunderstanding and this detail was incorrect.
