A TWENTY-two-year-old Carlisle man has appeared before magistrates charged with three counts of child rape and three further child sexual offences.
Callum-James Smith, of Percy Road, Longsowerby, did not enter a plea when he made a brief appearance before the city's Rickergate Magistrates' Court. In addition to the three rape allegations, Smith is accused of two sexual assaults and one count of sexually touching a child.
There was no application for bail.
The defendant - represented by defence lawyer Mark Shepherd - was told that he will appear at Carlisle Crown Court for a plea hearing on February 11.
He will remain in custody until that date.
