REMARKABLY, we are nearly halfway through the first month of the year.

The more organised people amongst us may have already planned where to take their significant other for Valentine’s Day in February.

Contrary to popular belief, Copeland offers those in love numerous opportunities to treat each other. We asked our readers on Facebook to name their favourite place to take a date around the city. The top 10 choices are:

1) Number 11 Market Place – The restaurant provides quality homemade burgers, burritos and tacos. Now in its fourth year, they have a vast range of dishes available to cater for vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free eaters.

2) The Peddler – Located in the historic bus station site, the food and drink venue gives guests of all ages the chance to sit down and enjoy a variety of meals and beverages.

3) La Venue – Now in their 21st year, the Lowther Street restaurant is family run and offers a variety of delicious tapas dishes.

4) Casa a Roma – The traditional Italian restaurant located on Queen Street has a menu filled with mouth-watering homemade cuisine and a relaxed and happy atmosphere

5) Picnics – Some people find that by visiting one of the area’s parks for a nice stroll and a spot to enjoy some homemade sandwiches with their significant other.

6) The Wheatsheaf, Egremont – The pub located on the town’s Main Street is perfect during the summer months with its beer garden. They usually have live bands perform as well, making for an enjoyable evening.

7) The Vagabond – Situated on the harbour, the pub and restaurant is rapidly earning a reputation for serving quality food made from local produce at affordable prices.

8) St Bees beach – Some enjoy travelling south of Whitehaven to enjoy a nice stroll along the coastline.

9) The Mansion – The Woodhouse Road accommodation provides guests with pet-friendly rooms as well as a swimming pool and sauna.

10) Stay at home – A couple of readers said that preparing a meal in the comfort of their own home, especially with Covid still lingering, is the perfect way to spend time with their loved one. Nothing says romance more than a night of 'Netflix and chill'.
