A charity is asking people to go outdoors more.

The charity, Friends of the Lake District, urged people to do this, and to join them in a new programme of conservation work parties which will be running throughout 2022.

Jan Darrall, Land Manager at Friends of the Lake District said: “What better way to start a new year than by joining us in the fresh air to help the environment on one of our work parties.

“There is something for everyone as we have land stretching from Threlkeld in the north to Kendal in the south, and from Broughton in Furness in the west, to Little Asby near Orton in the east.

“Tasks range from helping in our woodlands through to learning how to build dry stone walls, or help plant meadow plants to help our pollinators.

"It’s a great way to meet new friends and our famous array of work party cakes will be on offer.”

The charity has scheduled 44 events in 2022 with a range of activities including tree planting, dry stone walling, gorse control, woodland work, hedge planting and tree maintenance.

There will be a date and an activity to suit everybody who fancies giving something back and joining like-minded people in caring for the natural environment or restoring cultural heritage features.
