A Mountain Rescue team was given a valuable training opportunity after a sheep got stuck in an old lead mine.
Patterdale Mountain Rescue team members were carrying out a training exercise when a farmer got in touch to say that one of his sheep was stuck in the Greenside mine area on December 10.
A spokesperson from Patterdale Mountain Rescue posted on social media: "The nonplussed sheep was stuck on a ledge above one of the old Greenside Mine spoil heaps.
"A rope system was set up and a team member was lowered to encourage the sheep back to safety. The sheep very gratefully ran off in search of it’s flock."
