A WHITEHAVEN man has been banned from keeping animals for two years after he admitted causing his pet dog unnecessary suffering.
At Workington Magistrates' Court, Paul John Fyfe, 50, of King Street, Whitehaven, pleaded guilty to an offence that involved his "terrier type" pet dog - called Grike.
The charge stated that he repeatedly hit the animal with a length of wood.
Fyfe then 'threw' the dog, the court heard.
The prosecution said that he knew - or ought to have known - that his actions on June 27 in Criffel Road, Parton, would cause the dog unnecessary suffering.
Magistrates imposed a community order with 20 days of rehabilitation activity as well as a fine of £120, a £95 victim surcharge, and £400 prosecution costs.
The case was brought by the RSPCA, who will now find a new home for the dog.
