The News and Star readers have been reacting to vandalism incidents that have been occurring in Workington.

A number of shops in a busy town centre have been targeted by vandals. Big names and independent shops alike have been affected by the vandalism, which took place on Campbell Savours Way.

Dominos, Home Bargains and Angel Nails were among the shops affected.

Here's what you had to say.

Brian Mitchinson said: "With so many empty shops around this is not a great message for prospective tenants."

Susan Weaver said: "It's time to put a curfew on any under 18s in groups in the town centre unless they can prove they have a genuine reason to be there."

John Atkinson said: "The only way to stop this is to heavily fine the parents who are the responsible ones."

Judith Pearson said: "All you need to do is to put officers inside the building at relevant time, there is CCTV as back up. I've seen the kids myself in shopping trolleys running amok, is there no one monitoring the cctv as you would see them coming then an officer at each end to catch them simple."

One online readers said: "I walked through town last night there was a lot of kids around town apparently there was a party in Padua's for young kids around 12 to 16 years of age. There were 3 police Van's outside there and a police car. There were kids everywhere shouting and screaming going all over town.

"It's not Padua's fault by the way they were just letting youngsters have a party for Christmas but it's every time I walk through town there are windows smashed. What is wrong with kids these days why smash shop windows."

Oliver Lukeman, a member of staff at Angel Nails, said they are lucky that their window hasn't "caved in" yet.

"I imagine we will probably have to take some time off to get this sorted," said Oliver, 21.

Workington Town Councillor, Billy Miskelly, was saddened to hear about the damage.

He said: What I am worried about is [that] the shop keepers have [already] had a hard time with [Covid-19].

"Adding to it this anti-social behaviour, they are struggling."
