PRIDE in the hard work of councillors and officers was expressed by the council leader this week.

Allerdale Council's executive met at Lakes College on Wednesday, hearing a report on the authority's performance in quarter two of 2021/2022.

Councillor Marion Fitzgerald presented a report to executive members revealing that the council is behind target on just two of its Key Performance Indicators. Four were close to target and 17 of 23 were on target.

The report also revealed that 47 of 52 key council actions were on target. Five were close to target and none of Allerdale Borough Council's key activities were behind target.

Leader of the council Mike Johnson said: "I'd just like to say, looking through the report makes very pleasant reading. I'd like to thank the officer team and my fellow executive members and councillors for all their hard work supporting our communities.

"To achieve this level of performance in normal times would be something to celebrate in itself but to do this whilst also responding to the Coronavirus pandemic as well as the demands of local government reform is something we can all be very proud of."

The council's performance towards key goals was represented with a traffic light system.

"In total some 90 per cent of 52 projects monitored in the report are on track with just five showing as amber, none of our projects are showing any significant concerns. It's a similar picture with our KPIs, where they are showing as red I'm confident it is as a result of some temporary issue."

He said that all of the projects are "vitally important to improving the way we provide services."

Key projects marked in green - for "on target" - included carrying out recycling initiatives, progressing strategic green infrastructure projects and implementing a revised climate change action plan.

The council's efforts to deliver disabled facilities grants was behind target in the first quarter of 2021/2022 but has closed the gap towards its deadline moving into the amber zone.

KPIs in the red included: collection of NNDR business rates and time taken to process housing benefit/council tax change of circumstances.

Councillor Fitzgerald pointed out that the council is delivering on its projects and key performance indicators whilst still offering support around Covid-19.
