Schools around the Whitehaven area have been doing their bit to support those who need it the most.

Last Friday was Children In Need day and lots of primary schools took part in a day of fun filled activities, all while raising money for this great cause.

These are some of the pictures showing what the various schools spent their day doing and how they raised astounding amounts of money.

Montreal School in Cleator Moor held a non uniform and pyjamas day, much to the joy of the students. Naomi Bragg, a teacher at the school said: "As a school we had a non uniform/PJs day and the children brought in a donation, which was used to create some Pudsey Penny Pictures.

"All the members of staff donated towards the annual Duck Race, however we did our own version as a school. Each teacher chose a child to represent their duck and we had a hopping race in the hall. Team ‘Quack and Cheese’ won. We all had a wonderful day for such a wonderful cause.

As mentioned, along with the non uniform day the children were involved in fun duck themed races. The youths also showed off their craft skills creating Pudsey themed pictures.

At Bransty Primary School the children learned sign language to a popular song a were visited by a local radio station.

A teacher at the school explained what the children did, Miss Denwood said: "Year 1 and 5 learnt British Sign Language to By My Side by Calvin Harris for the BBC sing along."

At St Bridget's School in Parton Year 1 and Year 2 pupils dressed up in bright colours and asked for donations. Rachael Walsh, a teacher at the school said: "We raised almost 70 pound which is good as we are a small school."

Children in Need is the BBC’s charity. Its mission is to help ensure every child in the UK is safe, happy, secure and has the opportunities they need to reach their potential.

According to reports, the 2021 TV appeal - broadcast last week over three hours on Friday night - directly raised a huge £39,389,048.
