More than 30 recycling bins are being installed by Carlisle City Council in key locations in Carlisle.

They have received a grant of £24,000 from 'The Resource Action Fund' and are now in the process of installing 32 new on-street recycling bins.

Councillor Nigel Christian, Portfolio holder for Environment and Transport, said: "We want to support our residents and visitors’ efforts to recycle and if you’re out and about in Carlisle look out for the new bins and recycle ‘on the go’. The bin locations have been chosen as they are litter hotspots and by installing them, we hope there is less litter and more options to recycle."

The bins are clearly coloured and labelled and the Council are urging residents to put 'the right thing in the right bin.'

The bins are being installed in locations around Carlisle City Centre, Brampton Town Centre, Longtown Town Centre and Kingstown Industrial Estate.

Environment Minister, Rebecca Pow said: "Nobody wants to see litter in their communities. It tarnishes town centres, harms wildlife and wastes taxpayers’ money cleaning it up. A key part of tackling this blight is to ensure that local areas have the right bins in the right places.
