A town in West Cumbria held a spectacular Christmas event over the weekend that was enjoyed by thousands of guests.

Egremont Christmas was held in the Town Hall on Saturday and Sunday offering a unique Christmas experience for families.

Elaine Woodburn, a member of the organising committee, said: "We believe that around 3000 people attended and we've had lots of positive feedback. We wanted to offer the children who came an experience rather than just a visit."

Upstairs in the hall there was a Santa's Grotto where youths could go and meet 'Santa' and get a gift. They were told a story and were able to talk with 'Santa.'

There were fifty stalls over the weekend with different ones on both days. All the stallholders were local to the area and sold their own home made crafts.

On the stage there were performances from Bookwell School children and a brass band amongst other entertainers.

Most of the event was completely free with visitors only having to pay for the goods that they bought from the stalls.

As Christmas celebrations wer hindered by Covid last year the committee wanted to do something special.

Elaine thanked everyone who helped make the event happen and the community of Egremont.
