THE University of Cumbria has been ranked in the top ten universities in the country for international students.

The rankings, compiled by leading academic research company Ivory Research, have been released just in time for International Students’ Day on Wednesday, November 17.

The company conducted the research via freedom of information requests to all higher education institutions, and found that the University of Cumbria has done a lot to help its international faculty.

Maria Ovdii, from Ivory Research, said: “It’s hardly surprising that the UK is so popular for international students as it boasts world-renowned universities, a culturally diverse environment, and highly skilled academic staff.

"The impact of the pandemic has seen international students across the globe face unprecedented challenges, and so the daunting task of travelling thousands of miles to study became even more challenging.

"Our research shows that while some of the UK universities rank among the top 50 in the world, it’s the London universities that prove the most popular among international students.

"Not only that, the research findings on spending per international students are rather shocking, with some universities spending as little as 73p extra for support."

Cumbria, along with the rest of the UK, is becoming increasingly popular for international students.

In the last academic year there was an increase of 12.1 percent of international students in the UK, bringing huge potential benefits to cities like Carlisle that host the universities.

Whilst the University of Cumbria doesn't have one of the highest amounts of foreign students this could well change due to their approval rating, Ivory Research added.
