This spectacular shower of explosions lit up the night sky above Scaleby Castle, near Carlisle.

Visitors were treated to a dazzling display when they gathered on the front steps of the castle, hosted by Lord and Lady Henley, which proved a fantastic setting for the fireworks event staged by Scaleby Village Hall Committee.

After a short walk down the castle lane, visitors were welcomed with a mulled cider in the castle courtyard, before gathering to watch the display.

A committee member said: "The weather on Saturday gave us a few challenges but settled by late afternoon and we were then able to enjoy an incredible firework display.

"Local businesses kindly contributed to the purchase of fireworks from Thomas Graham and Son and our thanks go to Border Caravans, The Black Lion Hethersgill, Contract Scaffolding Services Ltd and J Taylor Construction."

The evening continued at Scaleby Village Hall, pie and peas were served by Kirkup Butchers, Longtown and the real ale from Great Corby Brewhouse was enjoyed by many.

A big thank you was issued to all the volunteers and Scaleby Welfare Committee, for helping the organisers to run this event.
