A TWENTY-nine-year-old Carlisle man has been remanded in custody after he pleaded not guilty to an offence of breaching a restraining order.
Wayne Foster Smith, of Meadow View, Harraby, is accused of committing the offence between October 5 and October 16. According to court papers, the defendant's charge alleges that he sent "abusive and threatening messages" to a woman.
This was prohibited under the terms of a restraining order that a court had imposed on October 5.
After legal discussion, magistrates remanded the defendant in custody until November 18 when the case will come back before the court.
The defendant, who was represented by defence lawyer Chris Toms, appeared before the court via a video link.
