WORK has started to refurbish a ward at a Cumbrian hospital.
The in-patient ward at Penrith Hospital, the Eden Unit, is currently being renovated.
It will benefit from a £1.2million transformation which will create an improved environment for patients and colleagues.
Vanessa Connor, Associate Director of Operations for Community & ICCs, said:
“We are all delighted that the Eden Unit is getting an upgrade which will provide a modern space and better environment.”
To enable the refurbishment to take place, the ward will be closed to admissions for approximately 16-20 weeks while the work is carried out.
The Eden Unit team has now moved to support additional beds which have been opened at Keswick and Brampton.
Vanessa added: “I would like to thank the team in the Eden Unit who have all been so positive about the work taking place.
"They are also being very flexible while the unit is closed, currently providing much needed care across two of our community hospital sites.
"Collaborative work is also progressing with County Council colleagues to establish the creation of some intermediate care beds.”
Linda Bell, the chair of the Penrith Hospital League of Friends charity said: "The League of Friend's are very excited about the refurbishment of the ward at Penrith Hospital finally going ahead.
"It is long overdue and will be a real morale boost for staff and patients when completed"
