A community group that is campaigning to preserve a historic bathhouse is inviting members of the public to help to bring two hidden rooms, which have been closed to the public for several years, back to life.

Volunteers from The Friends of Carlisle Victorian and Turkish Baths are inviting members of the public to lend a hand cleaning and polishing the two rooms in the James Street Baths, Carlisle this weekend.

The rooms are in a two story extension that was added to the Baths in 1920 to provide a ladies waiting room, and contain a stunning artdeco skylight, terrazzo floor and period staircase.

For a time the rooms were used as a gym before being closed to the public and used for storage.

Campaigners hope to bring the rooms back into use as part of their Vision to revitalise the historic baths.

Vice Chair of The Friends of Carlisle Victorian and Turkish Baths, Lynn Graham, said: "The possibilities are endless.

"There is ample space on the ground floor to create small treatment rooms that could be hired out to local therapists while upstairs would make a lovely lounge where visitors could relax after a massage or Turkish Bath."

Anyone is welcome to join in on Sunday, and further details can be found on the Friends of Carlisle Victorian and Turkish Baths Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/SaveCarlisleTurkishBaths.
