COMMUNITIES are being encouraged to get involved as more plans are unveiled for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The Platinum Jubilee will provide opportunities for communities across the country to come together in celebration in the months leading up to a special extended bank holiday weekend from Thursday, June 2, to Sunday, June 5, 2022.

Details of plans for this weekend have been published on www.royal.uk/platinumjubilee and include The Queen’s Birthday Parade (Trooping the Colour) and the lighting of beacons across the UK on June 2; A Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral on June 3; The Platinum Party at the Palace, a live BBC concert on June 4; The Big Jubilee Lunch and Platinum Pageant on June 5.

Carlisle MP John Stevenson said: ‘‘This will be a wonderful and unique celebration — the first Platinum Jubilee to be celebrated by a British monarch.

"I’m encouraging all constituents and community groups in Carlisle to get involved in this landmark event. Whether that be by participating in the national events listed here or many of the regional events including those potentially planned for Carlisle and Hadrian’s Wall or planning events such as street parties and a Big Jubilee Lunch of their own."
